In a shocking incident that has stunned the law enforcement community and the public alike, Om Prakash, the former Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his Bengaluru residence in HSR Layout on Sunday. The 68-year-old retired top cop was discovered with multiple stab wounds, and preliminary investigation points towards domestic conflict as a possible motive.

Wife and Daughter Initially Refused to Cooperate

According to senior police officials, the deceased’s wife, Pallavi Om Prakash, 61, informed the police about the incident at approximately 4:30 pm. However, when the police reached the residence, they encountered resistance. Pallavi and her 37-year-old daughter reportedly refused to open the door to the room where Om Prakash’s body was later found.

“The incident likely occurred between 2 to 3 pm on Sunday,” a senior police officer said. “When our team arrived at the location, the wife and daughter would not allow entry into the room. We had to force entry to access the scene.”

Upon entering the room, officers discovered Om Prakash lying lifeless, with multiple stab wounds on his chest, abdomen, and arms. Both Pallavi and the daughter were immediately taken into custody for questioning.

Investigation Underway, FIR Yet to be Registered

Additional Commissioner of Police, Vikash Kumar Vikash, addressed the media, stating that a formal complaint had been filed by Om Prakash’s son, and that the process of registering a First Information Report was underway.

“There is evident physical assault, and a sharp weapon has been used. The victim suffered severe blood loss,” Vikash said. “We are yet to register the FIR, and once that is completed, a clearer picture of the incident will emerge.”

The police have not yet made any arrests, as they await further findings from the ongoing investigation. Authorities are treating this as a homicide case with a potential familial angle, but no official confirmation has been provided on the exact role of the wife and daughter.

History of Domestic Disputes Comes to Light

As the investigation continues, disturbing details about the family’s internal discord have emerged. One officer revealed that Om Prakash and Pallavi had a history of frequent quarrels, which had intensified in the days leading up to the incident. The situation reportedly reached a tipping point recently.

According to a fourth police official, Pallavi had recently posted a message in a retired IPS officers’ WhatsApp group accusing her husband of threatening her with a firearm. “She claimed that he had pointed a pistol at her temple and threatened to shoot her,” the officer said. However, no member of the WhatsApp group alerted authorities about the message.

Property Disputes Possibly Linked to the Incident

The motive behind the fatal stabbing may stem from long-standing property disputes within the family. Investigators have found evidence suggesting that Pallavi was upset over several property decisions made by her husband. One officer indicated that Om Prakash had purchased land in his sister’s name, a decision that allegedly angered Pallavi. She had reportedly been pressuring him to transfer the land to her instead. Additionally, another property was registered in their son’s name, which further fueled her resentment.

A preliminary forensic examination suggests that Om Prakash was stabbed between eight and ten times, indicating the possibility of a violent outburst. Blood stains were reportedly found in multiple areas of the house, further confirming the brutality of the attack.
