In the last few weeks, the nation has lost three of its precious souls. Three Indian students have been killed in Canada. Following this Indian authorities have raised this alarming issue with Justine Trudeau’s administration.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday, “Indian High Commission has raised the concerns regarding the safety of Indians in Canada with the Canadian authorities.”
What did the Indian Authorities say?
MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “We are deeply saddened by these tragic incidents that have struck our nationals in Canada.” He also mentioned that the Indian High Commission in Ottawa and the consulates in Toronto and Vancouver are currently associating with the Canadian administration to ensure an extensive investigation. The spokesperson said that Indian authorities are in constant touch with the students’ families.
In addition, the minister said, “We also extend our powers to the grieving families. The safety, security and welfare of Indian nationals, particularly students, in Canada is a matter of “paramount importance”. In this regard, the Indian missions in that country are in regular touch with local authorities.
Indian Authorities’ Request to Canada
Speaking to the media representatives, Jaiswal said, “We have also issued an advisory for our nationals and students to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant in view of the deteriorating security environment in Canada as a result of the growing incidence of hate crimes and criminal violence.”
“With over 450,000 (4.5 lakh) Indian students in Canada, the country hosts the largest number of Indian students studying abroad. Additionally, the Indian community in Canada is significantly large. Earlier, we had issued an advisory to Indians in Canada, warning them about the challenging situation there,” the spokesperson said concluding his statement.
Indian Students Murdered in Canada
Gurasis Singh: The 22-year-old international student from Punjab was stabbed to death by Crossley Hunter, his roommate. The 36-year-old is charged with second degree murder. Gurasis was studying in Lambton College in Sarnia, Canada.
The 20-year-old Harshandeep was shot dead in Edmonton on December 6. Two persons, Evan Rain and Judith Saulteaux, both aged 30 were arrested. Both the murders are charged with first-degree murder.
The identity of the third victim has not been released yet. The murder cases of Indian students are increasing rapidly, and authorities now need to take a stern decision. The nation can’t afford to cost the lives of more innocent souls. We also extend our deep condolences to the families of the victims.
